1) Our April Meeting is Tuesday Night

Once a month our members make the pilgrimage to the Largo Cultural Center for a night of computing education and fun.  This month that meeting happens to coincide with the day that our income taxes are due.  So get 'em done, and then come on out and join us.

Our guest speaker, Ron Dupont, was the Director of Web Publishing for the St. Pete Times until recently when he left to start his own consulting business.  Ron is a delightful speaker.  He's both funny and knowledgeable about the Internet.

If you haven't visited us yet at our new venue, I think you're in for a pleasant surprise.  The center is a much nicer home than the school was, and it's so very pleasant to have a snack bar available before the meeting and during the break.

Don't forget that early birds are treated to Chuck Vroman's ever popular Novice SIG.  Chuck fields questions from across the computing spectrum.  His expertise, humor, and easygoing style are always appreciated by his audiences.  Chuck's SIG runs from 5:30 to 6:30 each meeting with a 15 minute break before the full meeting which starts at 6:45.

2) More Info About Our Meetings

Are you aware that we recycle printer cartridges?  When you replace the ink or toner cartridges in your printer, please donate the empties to the club (either at the meetings or at the Resource Center).  Not only does the club get some money for recycling, but it's good for the environment.

What are all of those drawings about at our meetings?

When you enter the meeting, stop by one of the tables to get a member's ticket.  Only our members get these, and you must show your membership card as proof.  The bulk of the prizes to be awarded go to these tickets.  Member drawings are interspersed with some other drawings:

The New Member drawing.  The prize goes to the members who recruit new members - not to the new members themselves.  You get 1 ticket for each new member that you recruit.

We reserve some of the better prizes for this drawing because we want to handsomely reward the people who actively help our club to grow.  Since we extend your membership by 2 months for each new member you recruit, we have several members who sponsor 6 new members and get their yearly membership for free.

There are usually only about a dozen tickets in this drawing so it's the best odds you're going to get in any of the drawings.

The 50-50 drawing.  We collect donations of 1 dollar or more, and the club splits the donations with the winner.  Winners generally collect from $35 to $60 for this drawing.

The C-Can drawing.  You donate canned goods or a dollar to enter this drawing.  We give everything collected to Religious Community Services (RCS).

Raffles.  Several times a year we hold drawings for a more expensive hardware or software item.  These are always publicized at the meetings, and a generally highly-desirable objects.

While these are the types of drawings we have at our meetings, we continue to tweak how the drawings are handled from meeting to meeting in order to keep them interesting.  It seems that everybody has a different idea of HOW the drawings should be administered.  I like the idea that the Board has decided to be flexible, and change the game frequently.
