The latest and greatest
Microsoft Office was recently released to Beta testers. You
can use it (for free) right up through November 30th
of this year (at which time it will cease to function completely and you
will have to either purchase it or revert to an earlier version of
Office).
I said it was for free. That's true, however you
must pay $19.95 for shipping & handling. You must also be
running either WinXP or Win2000 to use it (Microsoft will
include a free, 120-day trial of WinXP if you request when you are signing
up for the Office Beta).
Did I say $19.95 for S&H? If that seems a little
extravagant, let me explain what you get for your 20 bucks: Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, FrontPage, InfoPath, OneNote,
Publisher, SharePoint Portal Server, Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server,
the Getting Started Guide (printed), and more. You may install
these on up to 5 computers.
Remember: this is a BETA version, not a release
candidate. There isn't any support available for any of
these products, and they are all going to stop functioning at the end of
November. This is a great deal - just not for everyone.
To get the straight skinny on the deal, please go to:

A couple of our upcoming classes were overlooked when
the schedule was sent to our Webmaster, and consequently they're not
currently listed on our website. The first class is "eBay
Photography". It will be taught by Jim Boynton this
coming Saturday, May 3rd, from 10am 'til noon. The
class will cost you $10, and is about photographing items for sale
on eBay.
Jan Norman's popular Basic Windows class
will be starting a new session on June 6th. Jan's class runs
on 4 consecutive Friday afternoons from 1 to 3 PM, and costs $40
(plus a nominal charge for the workbooks that accompany the class).
Please email our new Registrar, Lynne Robertson, at
roblyn@arq.net to sign up (while you
can register for most of our classes on our website, these are not yet
listed).
You can view a list of available classes at:

We're on the hunt for a
new SIG leader for our Internet SIG. This SIG currently meets
on the 2nd Monday (although you can change that) of each
month from 1 to 3 pm at our Resource Center. I
emphasize, as always, that you don't need to be an expert on a particular
subject in order to lead a SIG; it's more important that you can be an
organizer and a leader. It's also possible to share leadership of a
SIG with another member or two. Please send an email to
doc@synergypublishing.com
if you're interested.
