TBCS Signs New Lease...

Finally!  We reached an agreement with our landlord to keep our Resource Center in the very same complex that we currently occupy.  We will move from the suite that we call home now to a pair of suites in another building in the same complex.  We'll be doubling the size of our SIG room, our computer lab, and our computer clinic.

We do not yet have a projected moving date.  Our new domain needs to be almost completely rebuilt to our specification before we move in.  While it would be nice if that could take place in February, we suspect that March might be a more realistic time frame.

December Meetings a week EARLY...

Just a friendly reminder: during the month of December, we hold both our Board of Directors meeting and our General Meeting a week early.  This year that means that our BoD will meet on December 7th, and our General Meeting will take place on December 13th.  Please mark your calendars so that you don't end up standing outside the Largo Cultural Center on December 20th looking like the little match girl.

FBI Warns of E-Mail About Surveillance
http://www.fbi.gov/pressrel/pressrel05/emailscheme112205.htm

I spammed all of you earlier in the week about a new virus warning from the FBI about emails that say your surfing is being monitored by "a law enforcement agency".  I warned you not to get suckered into opening the accompanying attachments because they would be a virus.  Several club members are getting emails that indicate at least a few of our members are now infected.

I received 16 copies of the virus the day after I sent out the message, and more each day since.  What should you do now?  My recommendation is that EVERYONE needs to run an online virus scan.  Why an online scan?  Because, simply put, once you get infected, your virus program is one of the first victims of the newly-resident virus.  Your virus program may continue to look like it's actively doing its job, but it has gone over to the dark side, and may now be protecting the virus.  You need someone else to take a look at your computer.

I can recommend not one, but three (FREE) online programs that you can use.  Any one of them should help you discover whether or not you are truly infected:

Bit Defender:

Housecall from Trend Micro:
