The
Tampa Bay Computer Society (TBCS) and the Palm Harbor Library
invite you to bring your computer to our FREE clinic for a checkup,
repair, or to install new hardware or software in celebration of Random
Acts of Kindness Week.
Random acts of kindness has been celebrated worldwide for several years
now. At TBCS, we celebrate the event by bringing our staff of
computer techs into the community for a day to service computers for the
general public.
We will be at the Palm Harbor Library on Thursday, February
15, 2007 from 10am 'til 2pm. You MUST pre-register for
this event by going to:

Internet Online Business by June Hollister
- STARTS
THIS FRIDAY
This class is treading new ground for us.
While we've broken the class into three 4-week sessions, most people want
to go the full 12 weeks because they all contribute to your success.
Each lesson is important. If you have ANY inclination to have an
Internet business, you should see what June has to teach.
Here's an excerpt from one of her
students:
"I've become convinced that this IS a solution for many people....
I came home with all kinds of things to think of. talk about an
adjustment.
she definitely turns your head around and puts it on straight. like
turning
on a light bulb. my best regards to June."
We've had requests to record the
classes for those who can't make it. This request has been made
before for classes, SIGs, and our monthly meetings. Since we have a
Digital Video SIG now, I'm going to see if we can start building a
library of useful videos. So here's a deal for you: If you will
bring your video camera to these classes, record the classes, and burn
them to either a CD or DVD, you can attend for free. If you are
interested, please send an email to the Club Secretary.

Story 3 is the FREE software that comes from Microsoft that helps you to
build movies from your photos. We had a Photo Story 3 contest
several months ago. Many of you asked afterwards if we would have
classes again. Photo Story software helps you to build photo albums
with transitions, movement, narration, and music. Not only can you
get very professional looking results, but the software is really very
easy to use.

Announcing 4 NEW classes by Jim Boynton.

Feb 21 1-3pm Digital Camera
Feb 28 1-3pm Picasa

Our SIGs (Special
Interest Groups)
all meet at our Resource Center
(map:
http://www.tampa-bay.org/maps.htm).
All of our SIGs are free to our members.
SIGs are a great place to get more personalized attention, and get your
questions answered. The following SIGs will meet this week:
Tuesday, January 30, 1-3pm
Novice SIG. Led by
Bill De Lucia
EVERY Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday,
January 30, 7-9pm
Microsoft Access SIG. Led by Howard Gray
Want to minimize all the advertising that piggybacks itself on so many of
your web pages? This can be done by implementing a "Hosts" file.
This meeting, Howard will show how to merge the Gorilla Hosts file with
the new MVPS Hosts file. You'll learn how to import and merge text
data, and how to put the Hosts file to work to speedup your websurfing.
Thursday,
February 1, 1-3pm
Hands-On Embird SIG. Led by Florence Osier
Thursday,
February 1, 7-9pm
Novice Visual Basic SIG. Led by Sam Richardson
We will learn how to create custom toolbar icons to automate a variety of
tasks in Microsoft Word. For instance: a tool that will clean up a
webpage that you have copied by taking out all the extra blank lines,
removing all the pictures, changing the fonts, left-aligning all the text,
and removing any hyperlinks - all by clicking a single toolbar icon!
Hope to see you there, and bring along anything you may be working on too.
Sam
Friday, February 2, 10am-noon
Basic Windows Classes. Instructor: Phil Sullivan
Phil teaches a very basic Windows curriculum in an 8-week structured course.
Friday,
February 2, 1-3pm
Intermediate Computer SIG. Led by Carol King
After Carol presents some of her favorite tips she'll hold a Q&A session (questions on any computer subject are fair game).
-----
Announcement:
The Digital Video SIG opened with about 20 people attending.
They enjoyed themselves so much that they have asked the SIG leader, Tom
Lembke, to expand the SIG to 4 times a month. Starting in February,
the SIG will be classroom type instruction on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of
each month and hands-on style of training on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of
each month. What a great start for this SIG. I think this is
going to be very popular in our club.
