How to Record a Vinyl LP to a CD using Acoustica’s Spin It Again software

First please check that the Turntable is connected to the computer.  You should see a line from the Headphone Jack on the Turntable going into the Line-In on the computer (if you need help with this—asks the on-duty person to check for you)

You will need your Vinyl LPs and the same number of new CDs for the transfer.

Open the software by clicking on the Spin It Again shortcut icon on the desktop.

Spin It Again will open to the following screen:

Click on “Record a Vinyl LP” and this screen opens.

Put your Vinyl Record on the turntable and turn the turntable on.  The “on” switch for the Turntable is the Volume Knob.  Turn the Volume Knob all the way up.  Make sure that the function switch on the Turntable is set for Phonograph.

Turn the computer’s external speaker’s volume down to a pleasing level.

Since this is the first time you are recording you need to set the recording level, click on the Level Wizard button in the upper right corner.

Start the Vinyl LP by setting the arm of the Turntable onto the Vinyl LP.

Click on “yes” when asked if you want Spin It Again to automatically find and select the soundcard.

The Level Wizard will ask you to play a track (the loudest one) of your LP for 30 seconds.  You may need to adjust the volume of the Turntable up or down to insure that you are seeing Green in the Level Meter and not much Yellow.

Once the recording level is set you are ready to record.  Close the Level Adjustment Wizard.

Now click on the Record Button.

Start your Vinyl LP by setting the arm of the turntable on the first track of your Vinyl LP.

When the first side of the Vinyl LP has finished playing, click the Pause Button (It appears in the same spot as the Record Button). Now turn over your Vinyl LP to the second side and click the Record Button again. Start the Turntable by placing the arm on the first track of the second side of your Vinyl LP

When the second side of your Vinyl LP has finished, click the Stop Button.

Say “yes” to the question “Are you sure you are done recording?”

Click the next button to go on to the editing of your recorded wave.

Spin It Again does a good job of finding the beginning and ending of each track but in some cases you may have to adjust them.  Go through the preview process until you are satisfied that each track is complete.  Use the “Zoom Button” to get in close.  If your Vinyl LP has the time listed for each track, this will help guide you.   You may need to merge with the next track or perhaps split the track. You should also remove any empty space between tracks by moving the beginning or ending indicator closer to the recorded wave.  Here is where you can delete any tracks you don’t wish.

Also on this screen you can clean up any recording with clicks, pops, etc.

“Vinyl Declick & Decrackle” is a good cleaning tool to use.  But try several of the effects to find your best choice. When you feel that you have a good recording, click on “Next” to go on.

This is where you type in the Name of the Album, the Artist, Year, Genre, and any Comments.

First try the “Look Up Album Information” button.  Spin It Again will go out on the internet and try to find this information and fill in this form for you.

When finished, click on “Next”.

Insert a new CD into the computer’s CD Burner and click on the Burn Audio CD Button.

You can make more than one copy of your recording if you desire.  Click on next.

Spin It Again is rendering the recorded Wave file onto a CD which you can play at your home or in your car if you have a CD player.

When asked if you would like to make a CD label and/or Jewel Case Insert.  Say No as we do not have this capability at present.

Try out your newly made CD either in the CD player in the Turntable or in this computer’s CD drive.

To record another LP, click on “Make a New Recording”

When asked if you wish to delete the recorded wave you have just made, say Yes.

Since you now have a CD containing that music there is no need for saving this file.

When you are finished recording for today, click the Quit button.
